For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 14:2
Is There Proof That Speaking in Tongues is Real?
Yes, as close to proof as we are going to get other then experiencing it.
Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine have discovered decreased activity in the frontal lobes, an area of the brain associated with being in control of one’s self.
The test proves that when the spirit is speaking our minds are not in control during that time. If also further proves that when we are speaking in tongues, someone other then the person speaking is controlling the outcome.

What is Speaking in Tongues?
Speaking in tongues means speaking in a way or in a language that is not normally understood by the speaker or the listeners.
The bible mentions two types of speaking in tongues:
1.) On the day of Pentecost Jesus’ apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other tongues.
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.
2) Speaking direct to God Though the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 14:2
For anyone who speaks in a tongue[ does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.
For anyone who has truly experienced speaking in tongues, it leaves no doubt in the mind, that what is happening is real.
Speaking in Tongues is Part of the Spiritual Gifts:
The apostle Paul classified speaking in tongues as just one of the spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:6-11 (NIV)
6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
